Visual and Media Arts Students and Entertainment Professionals
The Visual and Media Arts department at Emerson offers majors in several different areas of media production, including: Studio Television Production, Film Production, Radio, and Writing for Film & TV. Students are connected to the entertainment industry professionals via professors and board members. Emerson provides connections to professionals through internships and alumni. In July 2012, the College’s Department of Visual and Media Arts was named 9th on the list of the world’s 25 best film schools by the Hollywood Reporter.
Marketing Undergraduates & Professionals
Marketing Communications majors at Emerson gain hands-on experience through classes like Entertainment Marketing, Emerson Social Media, and a variety of organizations. Emerson students have gone on to be marketing professionals for boutique, non-profit, and traditional marketing firms and agencies.
Journalism
Journalism majors at Emerson College explore journalism ethics and law in addition to broadcast and print journalism. Journalism students can apply their classroom knowledge to organizations like Emerson Independent Video Newscasts and WEBN News. These organizations give students the opportunity to cover events like the Oscars, the Emmys, and local and national elections.
Performing Arts Students
The Performing Arts are an integral part of the Emerson College community. Currently, thirty-one percent of all undergraduates are working towards a Visual or Performing Arts degree. Through the opportunities that Emerson provides, from workshops with alumni and professionals to the productions on campus, theatre majors are given the best exposure to the world of theatre in and around Boston.
International Students
Emerson College is currently home to 240 international students. These students come from 6 different continents and over 40 countries. Our international population is comprised of students and faculty from counties such as New Zealand, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, India, Colombia, France, and Canada.
College Living- On Campus
Emerson has four on-campus residence halls in downtown Boston. Piano Row, located on 150 Boylston Street, is a 14-story housing complex holding around 550 students with its own café and gym. The Little Building residence hall, located at 80 Boylston, houses 750 students along with the main dining hall. The Colonial residence hall holds 372 students at 100 Boylston. Newly built Paramount Center houses 260 students and is located at 555 Washington Street in Downtown Crossing.
College Living- Off Campus
About 45 percent of Emerson’s undergraduate students and all graduate students live off-campus. The Emerson community has established homes in neighborhoods throughout Boston such as Back Bay, North End, Beacon Hill, South Boston and East Boston, as well as in Cambridge, Brookline and Allston.
Influential Alumni
With over 28,000 alumni worldwide, the Emerson Alumni community has a strong presence throughout campus that is recognized, appreciated, and continually growing with the contributions of every graduating class. Some of our alumni include: Max Mutchnick, the creator of Will and Grace, Dennis Leary, and make-up mogul, Bobbi Brown.
